Recently, the Cantonal Chemists launched a nationwide campaign to analyze cannabis/CBD-containing products sold on the Swiss market. The results were alarming: out of 100 products analyzed, 85 were found not to comply with legislation! 

73 of these products have been banned from sale, representing a potential health hazard for consumers. This particularly high rate is of great concern to the authorities in terms of consumer health and the quality approach of companies in the sector.

The campaign highlighted the seriousness of the CBD industry's lack of seriousness, and the importance for retailers (PHARMACIES, LARGE AND MEDIUM-SIZED RETAILERS) to steer consumers towards legal products, by choosing suppliers who can attest to the legality and traceability of their products.

Cannabis and CBD products analyzed :

100 different cannabis and CBD products have been tested by the cantonal chemists.

Irregularities :

• The composition
• CBD content
• THC levels (too high, therefore illegal)
• Illegal therapeutic claims

Legal obligations and self-monitoring for companies selling CBD

Companies marketing this type of product are obliged to carry out checks on the merchandise before it goes on sale.

As a result, the provenance of the hemp and its CBD and THC content must be systematically checked to ensure that the products offered for sale are compliant and present no risk to consumer safety.
